BANGALORE: The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) that had come down heavily on Bangalore Electricity Supply Company for its negligence that took the life of an eightyear- old girl, has now asked BESCOM to identify all hazardous locations in the city.On July 12, eight-year-old Sunitha stepped on a live electric cable lying on the ground near her school in Gangondanahalli off Mysore Road. Following which the KERC had issued a notice to the BESCOM managing director asking him to appear in person on July 21.“The BESCOM head appeared in person on July 21 and has promised that the utility will identify all the hazardous locations in the city, where surface breakers will be fitted,” KERC Chairman M R Sreenivasamurthy said.Further, the commission after hearing BESCOM has now asked the utility to furnish a detailed information, which once again will be reviewed in September, he added.The commission, on the basis of the details of the accident, had treated the matter on prima facie and issued the notice to the BESCOM managing director for violation of safety standards for distribution system prescribed by KERC under Sections 57(2) and 86 of the Electricity Act 2003.According to sources, KERC has taken a strict note on the matter, while BESCOM has promised that it will take all sorts of precautions.A detailed safety procedure manual will also be submitted to the commission very soon.
