HYDERABAD: Students looking forward to join the three Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) will have to wait till June 30 for details of the admission procedure.The institute which admits students after class 10 for its six-year integrated engineering programme has informed that the application process will be delayed. RGUKT was following the ‘Mandal Best’ system of admission under which SSC toppers from each mandals were selected. This system was scrapped by the High Court of Andhra Pradesh in 2010. Pending judgement of Supreme Court in this regard, the institute has proposed an alternative model of admission as per the High Court guidelines. The selection procedure is to be finalized and will be notified along with the application procedure on June 30.“The admission procedure will be completed by August. Even though admissions for corporate colleges are underway, students who want to be a part of RGUKT will have to wait,” said vice-chancellor Prof R V Raja Kumar at a press conference.He also informed that two new post-graduate courses - M.Tech in Computational Engineering and M.Tech in Computational Science - have been added to the curriculum. The intake will be a total of 200 students for the courses in the three campuses at Basar, Nuzvid and RK Valley.The institute, which aims to promote meritorious students from rural areas, has received a sanction of Rs 425 crore this year of which Rs 106 crore has been released for the first quarter.Apart from sprucing up the infrastructure, the institute is on a recruitment drive to fill vacant faculty positions. Of the 300 positions for temporary lecturers, 120 were filled last year and nearly 60 teachers are expected to join before the commencement of the academic year. However, 62 positions for assistant and associate professors are still vacant.
