The India Meteorological Department’s latest forecast on Saturday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand in the next two days and very heavy rains in parts of Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar on Saturday. According to the IMD, the monsoon is in positive territory for the first time this season.
Northwest India and western parts of peninsular India are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 2-3 days, the forecast says.
Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over northwest, central, east, and northeast India in the next five days. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall till July 9-10.
The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall till July 10 in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, as well as heavy rainfall till July 8 in Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya.
A cyclonic circulation lies over west-central Bay of Bengal off the south Andhra Pradesh coast at middle tropospheric levels, under whose influence, south Gujarat-Kerala coasts are likely to receive rainfall, says the report.
Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Kutch, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and interior Karnataka.
The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Rayalaseema over the next 5 days.
Isolated heavy rainfall has been forecasted for Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, and coastal Karnataka till July 10, and for Telangana, interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe till July 9.
