In Tirunelveli, Writers Pay Tribute To Pudhumaipithan On His 76th Death Anniversary
One of the most popular plays written by Pudhumaipithan titled Kalan Kizhaviyum was staged at the event.

On the 76th death anniversary of Tamil literature pioneer, Pudhumaipithan (C Viruthachalam), several influential writers gathered for a literary discussion programme. As per the reports of Local18, the event took place in the Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, where they put up certain questions along with a demand to the government.

As per reports, the literary discussion was organised by the Federation of All Literary Organisations, in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli. The event was also attended by the Sahitya Akademi-winning writer, Vannadasan. Local18 reports that he urged the government to construct a life-sized statue of Pudhumaipithan, who is considered to be an influential name in Tamil short story literature.

Speaking at the event, he said, “There is a street in Tirunelveli named after Pudhumaipithan, the pioneer of short story literature.” He continued, asking the administration to build a statue of the literary pioneer at Vannarpettai, in Tirunelveli. Adding, he gave information on who the artist would be, “The statue will be designed by artist Chandru and will be unveiled by Collector Karthikeyan.” According to him, this way Pudhumaipithan will be immortalised in the minds of the people.

The event was also attended by collector Karthikeyan, who was invited as the Chief Guest for the occasion. He presented the works of Chandru artists to the writers present at the event, which included Vannadasan, Dinakari and many others. Dinakari is the daughter of the late Pudhumaipithan, who also gave an acceptance speech at the occasion.

One of the most popular plays written by Pudhumaipithan titled Kalan Kizhaviyum was staged at the event. It was conducted under the direction of drama director, Chandramohan. It was attended by names like Tahsildar Selvan, painter Chandru, and young writer Soodamani, along with writers, poets, painters and literature enthusiasts.

The presenter of the program was Narumpoonathan, the district president of Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Kalaignar Sangam. The vote of thanks was done by Vannamuthu, district secretary.
