India, Afghanistan and the US will hold their next round of trilateral meet in September to discuss the post-2014 situation in Afghanistan when American forces are scheduled to hand over control for security operations to Afghan forces.

"In the continuing trilateral dialogue between India, Afghanistan and the US, the next round will be on the hinges of UN General Assembly in New York in September," US Ambassador Nancy J Powell said on Tuesday in New Delhi. Terming as "very important" India's engagement with Afghan government, she said the US acknowledges New Delhi's role in Afghanistan's future.

"I would like to acknowledge the important role India plays in Afghanistan's future, particularly in terms of business. Your working with Afghan government is very important and the US appreciates this," she told reporters in New Delhi. On the post 2014 scenario in Afghanistan after the pullout of NATO forces from that country, Powell said trilateral dialogue between India, US and Afghanistan has provided a forum for expressing the concerns by all parties "about the situation and how it evolves and developing solutions for the same."

She added the US is working closely with Afghan government to conclude the security agreement and that it will continue to work with the security forces in Afghanistan till the agreement is complete. "We are working closely with Afghan government to conclude the security agreement.

Meanwhile, there is a continuing presence of American troops and others and we hope that the agreement will be concluded soon," Powell said. "We assure that we will continue to work with the security forces of Afghanistan so that it can take on the major responsibility for security in that country," she added.
