THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Feeling the need for total revamping of the civil construction activities in the state, the Public Works Department plans to imbibe modern techniques and approaches in the field. As part of this, PWD is conducting a three-day Infrastructure Conference from Wednesday.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the conference at 11.30 am on Wednesday. PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju will deliver the presidential address.Ministers P K Kunhalikutty, K M Mani, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, V S Sivakumar, Delhi Metrol Rail MD E Sreedharan, Kochi Metro Rail MD Tom Jose, Transport Commissioner T P Senkumar and other officials will attend the inaugural function. About 120 selected delegates would be participating in the conference.The conference is structured with 7 technical sessions where about 20 experts of national and international repute in various sectors will share their experiences.Project conceptualisation & planning, investigation and data capture using modern techniques, state-of-the-art designing based on latest software, comprehensive safety measures, quality assurance programmes, internationally accepted best practices in civil construction etc. will be covered in the technical sessions.According to the PWD sources, the valuable recommendations, suggestions and ideas of the eminent experts and those emerged in the brainstorming sessions will be captured and pooled to formulate concrete strategies to work out a comprehensive policy aimed at a total revamp of the current practices.The conference will conclude on Friday.
