Interstate drug racket busted; 2 held

ALUVA: In a combined operation of the City Shadow Police and the Special Squad under Aluva DySP R Salim, an interstate racket indulged in the sales of narcotic substances was busted on Thursday. Two people were arrested and 750 ampoules of highly-concentrated Lupicgesic were seized from them.The accused are Kunjumon Xavier alias Njarambu, 44, of Mangalassery Nazreth, in Aluva, and Lijo, 32, of Moonjely, Erumathala, near here. They were nabbed from Edathala. Kunjumon is an accused in a murder case.They were selling the ampoules in auto-rickshaws and cars. Each ampoule costs over Rs 500 in the market. The consignments were brought from Mysore, the police said.The raid was carried out under the special directive of City Police Commissioner Ajithkumar and Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief Harshita Attaluri. City Special Branch Assistant Commissioner M N Ramesh and Aluva DySP R Salim, CIs K B Prafulla Kumar, Shadow Police personnel Muhammed Nizar, Hussain Manaff, Anoop and Saji, and Special Squad members ASI Pradeep, Muhammed and Nazeer took part in the operation.The accused will be produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate here on Friday.
