CHENNAI: A man was arrested at Thirumangalam for allegedly betting on the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches on Sunday.Police intensified vigil against betting in the city during the final match of IPL-Season 5 between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.Acting on information that a bookie from Anna Nagar was indulging in betting, a special team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Thi-rumangalam), B Kalitheerthan, zeroed in on a youth when he was handling four ‘customers’ at a park. The bookie was identified as Rahul Tibrewala (28), a B.Com graduate. “He had been indulging in betting for the last three years,” ACP, B Kalitheerthan told Express.The ACP said that the hunt followed a complaint from an aggrieved party. He added that Rahul’s bosses were in Mu-mbai and the process was carried out through phones.Police seized `18,000, two cellphones and a book containing jottings from the bookie. Rahul was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, Police arrested Amit Kumar (19), a cell phone spare parts shop owner, and seized 40 IPL tickets from and him. He was arrested near Elephant Gate.
