Jaipur (Rajasthan): Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is looking to get her politics right – this time with a little help from tennis rackets.
Back from the BJP's big meet in Mumbai, Raje seems to have made a New Year resolution to keep up the sagging support of her MLA's.
The Chief Minister has thrown her house open to the legislators for playing tennis and badminton.
The tennis court is a place where Vasundhara Raje, sporting a new and friendlier avatar, is trying to put behind what nagged her most last year - the wavering support of her MLAs and ministers over controversial land deals and her style of functioning.
Raje has now extended an invite to her MLAs to join her for tennis and badminton rounds every morning and evening.
"I'm sure when people will make time and play with a competitive spirit it will help develop a team spirit and make us a close knit group. I think it’s a very good idea," says she.
While Raje hopes the bonding on the court will trickle down to that in the assembly, the MLAs are looking to score points at the tennis courts for the 'larger game' of the forthcoming cabinet reshuffle.
Known for what her dissidents call 'royal ways', if it's tennis that has caught Raje’s fancy, the Mission tennis it is for everyone working with her even if most of the MLAs have never heard of the sport.
State Minister for Rural Development, Kalulal Gurjar says, "We grew up in the villages playing gilly-danda, kabbadi and dari-ghota like cricket. We have never played tennis ever."
However, if the Chief Minister's monitoring the tennis ball just before the cabinet reshuffle, efforts at learning the game flow easily enough.
MLA Barmer, Taga Ram Choudhary says, "I will work hard at learning the sport. I have decided what I have to do and what not. Let me get to the court then you see what I do."
