HYDERABAD: Claiming that his arrest itself was ‘illegal,’ YSR Congress party chief and Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday moved a petition before the special CBI court seeking bail to enable him to campaign for the June 12 bypolls in the state. The CBI court in Hyderabad posted further hearing on the bail plea to May 31 after asking the investigating agency to file its counter.Jagan Mohan Reddy was arrested on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody on Monday till June 11 and is presently lodged at the Chanchalguda prison.Jagan, who filed the bail plea through his counsel, requested that he be granted bail to enable him to campaign for the bypolls in the state for his party candidates. “My client (Jagan) is the lead campaigner in the election campaign on behalf of YSR Congress party and all candidates”, Jagan’s counsel submitted. The petition said that the reason for arrest shown is that there is a possibility of Jagan Mohan Reddy interfering with investigation. “The said apprehension and ground is wholly misfounded and incorrect. It is therefore manifestly evident that the arrest is malafide and reason shown is entirely extraneous,’’ the petition said.Jagan never interfered with any investigation or influence any witnesses at any point of time, the petition said. Jagan’s counsel said there is no possibility of his client making himself scarce or unavailable for further enquiry or investigation. The counsel said Jagan would abide by the conditions imposed by the court, if granted bail.
