Rourkela: A six-year-old boy died after he was crushed under the wheels of the Lord Jagannath chariot at Purunapani in Sundargarh district, police said on Monday.
Sushanta Mohapatra, who was witnessing the Ratha Yatra celebration on Sunday at Purunapani fell on the ground when he was knocked by the chariot pulling crowd and came under the wheels of the chariot, police said.
He was immediately rushed to Hatibari health centre and subsequently shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital.
However, the boy succumbed to his injuries during the treatment on Sunday night, they added.
Four persons including three boys died in separate incidents during Sunday's Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath at different places in Orissa.
During the world famous car festival at Puri, a devotee died of heart attack, police said.
In Cuttack district, a 12-year-old boy died after he came under wheels of the wooden chariot of Dadhibamanjew at Sunthipal under Tigiria police station.
In Balasore district, a boy was run over by the chariot of Lord Jagannath at Talakurunia under Bahanaga block.
In Dhenkanal district, a 13-year-old boy was crushed to death under the wheels of the chariot at Bada Suanal under Kamakshyanagar police station.
