Revered Muslim scholar from Kerala, Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar Sunday called for an immediate end to violence from all quarters over an anti-Islam film made in the US.
"World over there has been violence and this has come from even Muslims and this is not acceptable. No sort of publicity can tarnish the image of Islam and if anyone is trying to do it, its not going to make any impact," Kanthapuram told reporters here.
"The Muslim community should oppose this anti-Islam activity not through violence but through other forms of protest. A section is trying to capitalise on this unrest and Muslims should not fall for this," added Kanthapuram, who is the general secretary of the All India Sunni Scholar's Organisation.
He also asked responsible authorities to see that the social network and the internet is not misused for maligning Islam.
Kanthapuram heads the Jamia Markaz Ssaqafathi Ssunniyya, a hugely popular social, charity and educational organization based in Kozhikode and in the past three decades more than 30,000 students from various states in the country have completed their studies at the Markaz (centre).
Three years back Markaz hit the headlines when more than a 100 children from Kashmir were brought here to give them the basic education.
He was in the news recently when he announced the construction of the country's biggest mosque at a 40 acre campus near Kozhikode, which will accommodate more than 25,000 people in the open courtyard.
