BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday set aside a lower court’s order which had sentenced a convict of gang-rape case to life imprisonment and awarded him 10-year imprisonment.The appellant, Mali alias Majunatha, stated that he and his friends Nagaraju and K Manjunatha were sentenced to life imprisonment in a gang-rape case by a lower court. He said the three of them had kidnapped a woman on April 25, 2004 at 8.30 pm in Soladevaranahalli police station limits and had gang-raped her at Talikatte.He contended that he was only 19 years old when he committed the crime and sought an early release as he was “not aware of the implications of the case”.He claimed he was still a bachelor and promised to correct his mistakes. Hearing the petition, the division bench set aside the lower court’s order and sentenced him to a 10-year imprisonment and disposed of the petition.
