The Karnataka Milk Federation, the state-owned dairy cooperative federation with brand name ‘Nandini’, said it will sponsor Scotland and Ireland cricket teams for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. This move has received criticism from some quarters.
Confirming the sponsorship, KMF Managing Director MK Jagadish said that the teams will display the ‘Nandini’ brand during the matches.
“Yes, we are sponsoring them. They are going to display our brand during the matches,” KMF Managing Director M K Jagadish told news agency PTI on Sunday.
He emphasised that the decision was made with the goal of expanding the reach of ‘Nandini’ as a global brand.
“We already have stores in the Middle East. Our presence is in Singapore as well. We are selling our sweets in America,” Jagadish stated.
Information technology industry veteran and former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Infosys, TV Mohandas Pai, criticised the sponsorship move in a post on X.
“Why not sponsor the Karnataka Ranji team , Karnataka sports persons, Karnataka artists? Farmers children, scholarship for poor? Kmf is funded by Kannadiga tax papers money, subsidy and investments from budget but chooses to spend on foreign teams whom nobody knows!,” Pai wrote.

In response to Pai’s criticism, KMF Managing Director defended the sponsorship decision. He clarified that 85 percent of the federation’s revenues directly benefit farmers.
“85 percent of our revenues goes to the farmers only. We are sponsoring it for the promotion of our product,” he stated.
Further adding, “We need to go global.”
