HUBLI: State Agriculture Minister Umesh Katti stated that he was not responsible for the government decision to acquire fertile land for industrial purposes and Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani is answerable for this acquisition.
Katti clarified that farmers and the media should ask the Industries Minister whether the government was acquiring fertile or dry land for industries. Industries are important for development, but we must not neglect agriculture, he added.

He told reporters that he was not aware of acquiring 7,000 acres in Gadag district or that farmers were opposing giving land to Brahmini Steels in Bellary district.

Opposition leaders and a section of the media have conspired to create needless panic on scarcity of fertilisers and seeds, Katti claimed. The electronic media is telecasting false news that the farmers were facing scarcity of fertilisers and seed. Opposition leaders are trying to encash on the situation by showing fake concern for farmers, he justified.
