THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday gave its in-principle approval for imposing power restrictions in the state. It has approved the proposal to introduce halfan- hour loadshedding between 5 am and 9 am and between 6.30 pm and 10.30 pm daily.Power supply to industrial and commercial uconsumers will be restricted to 80 per cent at normal tariff. Any power consmption beyond this limit will be charged at market rates. The Cabinet has asked the KSEB to seek the State Electricity Regulatory Commission’s nod for imposing the restrictions from April 2 onwards.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters that Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed and the KSEB had been asked to study various options to overcome the power crisis.“The state will have to move to loadshedding mode if additional power is not made available soon. Even though the state is getting its due share from central power generating stations, that might not prove to be sufficient,” he said.
