Kerala: Watery grave for 3 engineering students

KOCHI: In a tragic incident, three students of SCMS School of Engineering Technology, Karukutty, met with a watery grave in Chalakkudy river, near Prakriti Gramam, Ezhattumugham, close to Chalakkudy, on Tuesday.Sheikh Shihas T S, Binu H and Afsal C I, aged 21, doing sixth semester automobile engineering, had gone with seven others on a trip to Ezahttumugham.When they reached the Prakriti Gramam, the trio stepped into the Chalakkudy river at a point where the water was deep, according to college sources.One of the students who was following them noticed them drowning and called for help.The Angamaly Fire Force rushed to the spot but could not save the students.While two bodies were fished out immediately, the third was recovered after an hour’s search, sources said.The mishap took place around 11.30 am.The bodies were taken to Chalakkudy Government Hospital where the postmortem was conducted.Binu was cremated on Tuesday night.The funeral of Sheik and Afsal will be held at 10 am on Wednesday.Binu and Afsal were friends from schooldays.Binu is the son of Haris A of Shibu Quarters, Lajnath Ward, Alappuzha, and Afsal is the son of Ibrahim Kutty, Chakkuparambil, Civil Station Ward, Alappuzha.Sheik Shihas is the son of Sheikh Abdul Wahab, Parottumparambil, Kattingachira, Irinjalakuda.
