In a novel experiment, the Civil Supplies Department is all set to transfer subsidy money on kerosene to ration card holders in Hyderabad and East Godavari Districts from September.
According to a government order issued in June, card holders should submit their bank account numbers for the new scheme, which envisages crediting money worth the subsidy to below poverty level families.
According to commissioner of Civil Supplies Department Haripreet Singh, they selected 10 Fair Price Shops (FPS) in Hyderabad and 35 FPS in East Godavary district to implement the scheme and are receiving bank account numbers of the card holders.
Under this scheme, the government will directly transfer the subsidy amount of Rs 66 into the card holder’s bank account, the commissioner explained.
At present, the ration card holders have to purchase their quota of two litres of kerosene per card per month at the market price of Rs 33. The government will directly transfer the subsidy amount into the card holder’s bank account.
