Our change in lifestyles and fast paced lives have forced us to opt for foods that are easier and faster to make. However, with fast food becoming popular, the habit of healthy eating has slowly started disappearing. These foods are low in nutrient value and high in calorific content. While they make nice meals for once in a while, eating junk food on a regular basis is harmful to our health. Hence, we should say no to junk foods. What makes fast junk food popular is also its relatively cheaper price compared to healthier wholesome foods. Small shops have mushroomed on the side of the roads that sell a plate of noodles or fried bajjies for anything between `10 to `25. With the demand of fast food increasing rapidly because of its low cost and easy availability, now it has became an indispensable part of our life. The unhealthy habit of eating fast foods can also be considered as a slow poison as the constant intake of oily, fried and low nutrition will soon take its toll on health. Also, more often than not, this food is prepared in unhygienic conditions which makes it a breeding a ground for diseases and infections.A lot of scientific research has gone in to determining whether junk food is safe and the side effects of excessive intake. A research carried out at Stockholm University showed that baking or frying carbohydrate rich food contained certain chemicals that could cause genetic mutations and even damage our nervous system. Other more commonly caused problems relate to the liver, stomach or kidney.Animesh Sah is an VIII standard student at Kendriya Vidyalaya Picket
