KOCHI: Though the procedures for issuing Unique Identification (UID) card as part of the Aadhaar project have commenced in the district, many people are still in the dark on how to secure a card. As of now, the authorities are conducting on-the-job training in a camp at Thrikkakara Community Hall where the data for the card is being collected and biometrics taken. “In a few days, hands-on training for these 56 instructors will be completed. There are plans to organize regional camps after this,” said Mini, district coordinator, Akshaya. The citizens will have to fill in the data sheets for enrollment. The ward members of grama panchayats or municipal councillors will be entrusted with the duty of distributing the enrollment forms to the people coming under their ward or division limits. The completed forms should be returned to the Akshaya officials who will enter the data in the software. Akshaya will organize a camp in each ward in consultation with the ward member or councillor. At the training camp in Kakkanad things have to be more organized. Many people have to stand in queues for quite some time. “Once enrollment forms are distributed to people’s representatives, the citizens will be able to return them to us soon and we can enter the data in the software. So, when the people come to the camp, they will not have to wait much, for it will take five minutes for a person to get enrolled,” she said.Taking prints of ten fingers, photo and scanning the iris comprises the biometrics process. Name, address and age are the only mandatory information to be furnished in the enrollment form. Proof of name, address and age should be produced.Once the process is over, it will take around three months for a person to get his or her UID by post. A citizen of India can enrol his name from any part of the country.
