Kolkata: A court in Kolkata granted bail on Thursday to Dr Pranab Dasgupta, a director of AMRI Hospital where 90 persons choked to death from a fire in the basement in December.
District sessions judge, Alipore, Anindya Bhattacharya, granted bail to Dasgupta on the plea that he would not abscond.
The counsel for Dasgupta, a well-known gynaecologist, submitted before the court that he was not in India on the date of the fire on December nine last year.
He stated that Dasgupta had returned to India on March 15 on his own despite the possibility of arrest and as such would not abscond if granted bail.
Two other directors of the hospital, RS Agarwal and Dr Mani Chhetri were earlier granted bail in the case.
Seven directors and four administrative staff of the hospital were arrested and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
