London: India's ace leg spinner Anil Kumble has set himself the target of claiming 600 Test scalps after becoming the fourth most successful bowler in the world.

The master spinner took his total to 533 as he moved ahead of West Indies legend Courtney Walsh (519) during India's recent Test series victory in the Caribbean.

Kumble, who is in England on a short stint with Surrey County Cricket Club, is now behind Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan and Glenn McGrath in the standings.

"It is very satisfying to pass Courtney's milestone," Kumble said.

"I'm very proud to join the likes of Shane Warne, Murali and McGrath, for India. It's very tough when you play so much cricket and I need my body to hold up in the next few years but I think 600 Test wickets is now a realistic target," he told Metro News.

Kumble, who flew in here on Monday, made his debut for Surrey on Wednesday in their four-day clash with Somerset.

"Playing for Surrey is going to be a fantastic experience. It is a club which can boast rich traditions and fantastic players like Laker, Bedser, Stewart and many more.

"The Brit Oval is now one of the leading venues in the world and I am really looking forward to helping Surrey win some trophies this year."

Kumble's stay with Surrey will depend on whether he is selected for a triangular One-Day series in Sri Lanka starting next month or not.

"It will depend on team management," he said. "I haven't figured that much in the One-Day side over the last year but the World Cup is something any cricketer would love to be a part of.

"I don't think I have anything to prove in the One-Day game but if it is seen I can play a role in the team then so be it. I have played more than 250 One-Day Internationals and will work hard and see how it goes."
