RAMANATHAPURAM: The Sri Lankan navy on Tuesday detained four fishermen, who were reported missing on Monday, for entering Sri Lankan waters. A fisheries department source said more than 600 boats had ventured into the sea from Rameswaram on Monday after a week’s lull and all of them returned except one with four fishermen — Govindan, Arumugam, Kumar and Nathan of Rameswaram, because of a snag in their boat.A five-member team led by Murugan set out to trace the missing fishermen on Tuesday after getting a search order from the fisheries department. They spotted the boat and tried to rescue them. But the Sri Lankan navy surrounded the  boat and towed it away with the four fishermen after chasing away the rescue team. The rescue team returned to shore. The detained fishermen were kept under naval custody in Thalaimannar jetty in Sri Lanka.
