US women's gymnasts revealed they were in tears just 30 minutes before competing in Sunday's Beijing Olympics qualifying rounds after vault specialist Samamtha Peszak injured her ankle warming up.
Peszak was only able to compete on the uneven bars and this forced a change of strategy from the US team, which now stands second in the rankings to China at the half-way mark.
"We went out and we showed the world and every team out there today that we can come back strong," said world all-around champion Shawn Johnson.
