CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government will bring in a law providing three per cent job reservation for differently-abled in the private sector, according to Social Welfare Minister Selvi Ramajayam.After a conference on state schemes for differently-abled here on Saturday, she said the government will come up with a lot of schemes for the differently-abled during the budget session with a particular thrust on implementing three per cent reservation in private and government sectors.The minister also said that the government plans to bring out a government order making it mandatory to have ramps for the differently-abled in government and private offices.Hitting out at the previous government, Ramajayam said `150 crore announced in the budget for differently-abled persons remained unutilised. “Although welfare schemes were announced during the DMK regime, the funds never trickled in and the families of the differently-abled were not even paid funeral expenses,” she said.She also criticised the previous government for not implementing the three per cent reservation for disabled in the government sector. The minister further said that the government is preparing a strategy to ensure that welfare measures reach the differently-abled and has asked officials below the District Disability Rehabilitation Officers (DDRO) to enumerate the disabled in the gram panchayat and block levels and monitor if the schemes are reaching them.State Commissioner for the Differently-Abled P R Sampath, president of Tamil Nadu Differently-Abled Federation Chidambranathan, general secretary of Tamil Nadu differently-abled federation P Simhachandran and vice president of the federation T M N Deepak were present.
