The Customs Department at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) recovered 1660 grams of cocaine worth more than Rs 24 crore from a national from Liberia. The cocaine was hidden in the shape of a white rasgulla (a sugary dessert).
According to news agency ANI, the value of the cocaine recovered from the foreign national has been estimated to be around Rs 24.90 crores in the international market.
“On the basis of profiling, Customs@IGI Airport have seized 1660 grams of Cocaine valued at Rs.24.90 cr from one male Pax of Federal Republic of Liberia Nationality who arrived from Dubai to Delhi. The Pax has been arrested under NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway,” the Delhi Customs said in a post on ‘X’.
The Customs Department officials posted at the airport said that the person from the West African country had reached Delhi after taking a flight from Dubai. The Customs Department team got suspicious after he landed at the IGI Airport. The Liberian citizen was stopped for questioning and he was searched following which 1660 grams of cocaine was recovered from him, hidden in the shape of a white rasgulla.
The foreign national was immediately taken into custody. The security agencies started interrogating him to find out how the operation was planned and the mastermind behind it.
Huge consignments of drugs have been recovered on several occasions at the IGI Airport. The security and scanning system of the Delhi airport has been improved. The Customs Department has also started using drones for passenger profiling.
Earlier in May, a team of Delhi Customs Department caught a person carrying 2 kg of osmium powder whose market value was estimated to be Rs 72 lakh.
