Pravin Mahajan, accused of murdering his brother, BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, is "concerned" about Rahul.

Mumbai: Pravin Mahajan, accused of murdering his elder brother, BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, is "concerned" about his nephew Rahul's arrest in a narcotics case, Pravin's lawyer said on Saturday.

Nandkumar Rajurkar said Pravin, who is in jail, told him that Rahul was a "spoilt child" and that he (Pravin) had many a times asked Pramod to watch his son.

Pravin is about Rahul after he learnt through newspapers that he had collapsed in a court, Rajurkar said.

Pravin asked Rajurkar whether people are still discussing the murder. He denied having told his wife Sarangi that he had shot at Mahajan in a fit of rage, said Rajurkar.

"Pravin never said this to Sarangi and he can't understand why she told this to media". Pravin felt that perhaps she has been misquoted, the lawyer said.

Pravin told Rajurkar that he does not remember why he had shot at his brother. He also said that if he wanted to kill Pramod, he would have shot him in the head to cause instant death. But that was not the case, he said.

"Pravin does yoga in jail and appeared to be fit and healthy. His diabetes is under control and he reads books on philosophy. He also exchanges pleasantries with fellow prisoners, extradited don Abu Salem and Chhota Rajan gangster D K Rao. They often meet during dinner and breakfast," Rajurkar said.

Pravin doesn't seem repentant, said the lawyer. He appeared to be calm and has been maintaining that he did not remember what happened on the ill-fated day when he shot at Pramod.

"Even the FIR is silent on the motive for the murder. Pravin has never informed police that he had shot at him in a fit of rage. The media reports in this regard were not correct," Rajurkar claimed.

Rajurkar said Pravin asked him about the trial and how the matter was progressing in the court. He also wanted to know how should he prepare his defence.

Rajurkar said Pravin had urged the court to send him for psychiatric tests and his plea would come up for hearing on June 13. The next day he would be produced for remand. "The investigations are almost over and chargesheet is expected to be filed shortly," he said.

"We have complained to the court that investigations have been one-sided so far and the police is not trying to find out why Pravin had resorted to the drastic step. Things would be clear if he (Pravin) is subjected to psychiatric tests," he said.
