Darjeeling: Five persons accused in the murder of prominent Gorkha leader and All-India Gorkha League president Madan Tamang in 2010 on Monday surrendered in a local court in Darjeeling.

Darjeeling: Five persons accused in the murder of prominent Gorkha leader and All-India Gorkha League president Madan Tamang in 2010 on Monday surrendered in a local court in Darjeeling.

The five, all members of the GJM's student wing Vidyarthi Morcha, have been remanded in 14 days' judicial custody, Assistant Public Prosecutor Pankaj Prasad said.

The five are: Kashab Raj Pokhrel, Alok Kanta Thulung, Kismet Chhetri, Dinesh Gurung and Puran Thami. Madan Tamang was hacked to death in broad daylight on May 21, 2010 when he was overseeing arrangement for a public meeting he was to address.
