New Delhi: The Jharkhand police on Monday arrested eight people in connection with the killing of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Sunil Mahato.
Police say of the eight arrested, two of them are CPI (Maoist) ultras. The arrests were made following a raid in naxal-infested Ghatsila sub-division of East Singhbhum district.
The two ultras were identified as Rajan Mahto alias Santosh and Nirmal Mahto alias Vikash, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Darad, who have been supervising the ongoing combing operation for the last four days was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.
Darad added that the arrests were made following a thorough investigation and available evidences.
On Sunday the Jharkhand police had claimed that they had identified the Naxal group responsible for Mahato’s assassination.
Director General of Police, J Mahapatra, said the local link responsible for providing information to the Naxals had been detained.
Sunil Mahato, the MP from Jamshedpur, was murdered in full public view by Naxalites, during a Holi celebration, on March 4 near Narsingh village of Jamshedpur district.
His two bodyguards and a party colleague were also killed in the attack.
