New Delhi: In a major breakthrough in probe into the Malegaon blasts that occured on September 8, the Special Task Force has arrested an ISI agent in Lucknow, who was caught passing sensitive military information.

The man, travelling on a Pakistani passport, was trained in Dhaka. Security officials identified the arrested 'agent' as one of the masterminds behind the blasts.

At least 37 people were killed and 56 were seriously injured on September 8 when three bombs parked on cycles went off near a mosque in Maharashtra’s Malegaon town, when people were coming out after Friday afternoon prayers. The blasts occurred near the Hamidia Mosque in the Bada Kabristan area of the communally-sensitive town.

Meanwhile, police recovered some explosives in a yellow container in the Mohammadiya Shopping Centre in Malegaon on Wednesday. Subsequently, the entire area was cordoned off and fire brigade personnel were stationed outside the centre.

The bomb squad searched the entire premises located at Kidwai Road. The Mohammadiya Shopping Centre is close to the graveyard where the blasts took place last week after Friday prayers.
