HYDERABAD: A Home Guard, who was among 800 odd personnel removed from service, climbed the All India Radio tower on Friday, demanding the Home Guards be reinstated. Tension prevailed as the Home Guard threatened to immolate himself on the tower sending police into a tizzy for nearly two hours.
A Srinivas Nayak, who was working with Asif Nagar police station was among nearly 825 Home Guards removed from service after an inquiry found they had submitted fake documents to get jobs. They were removed from service eight months back. However, majority of them were working without any pay since then and they even reportedly performed duties during the Ganesh immersion procession. The Home Guards met higher officials earlier but their grievance was not solved.
