Punjab: An Indian woman residing in Italy has been finally reunited with her children after a gap of one year.
Jaspreet Kaur said she had come home one day to find her husband, Kulwinder Singh and both her children missing.
She registered a complaint with the Italian police but they were unable to locate them.
Much to her surprise Kulwinder returned home a few days later but refused to tell her where the children were.
Jaspreet alleged that her husband had brought the children to India with him and then returned to Italy without them.
Upon his return, he burnt Jaspreet?s documents so she could not go back to India.
According to her, Kulwinder had hatched the plan soon after she refused to give him the Rs five lakh dowry that he had demanded.
"He used to harass me for money all the time. He sent the children to India without informing me. I was pregnant then but he forced me to abort the child," Jaspreet claimed.
A frantic Jaspreet lodged a report with the police against her husband. She also began getting her documents re-issued to go to India.
On returning to India, she registered a case with the Punjab police who began looking for the children and eventually tracked them to Kulwinder's relatives house.
Nawanshahr SSP, Arun Pal Singh said, "We have not yet registered a case as the father brought the children back to India. However investigations are on to establish what the problem really is."
However Jaspreet's family says it is a clear case of dowry harassment.
"Our daughter was hounded. We advise all our relatives and friends not to send their daughters to far off places where no one is there to protect them from something like this," said Jaspreet?s father Ajeet Singh.
For the time being Jaspreet is content with just being with her children.
However she wants to pursue the case against her husband sometime soon.
