Mangalore: Was the recent homestay attack a result of the turf war between self-proclaimed protectors of Hindu culture in Mangalore? Investigating officers think so after learning from reliable sources that Sharan Pumpwell of Bajarang Dal and Subash Padeel of Hindu Jagaran Vedike had developed hostility towards each other after an argument.

Sources close to Padeel confirmed that Pumpwell had objected to Subash Padeel setting up a unit in Pumpwell and naming it as Hindu Jagaran Vedike Pumpwell. “Though Subhash seemed convinced and as instructed renamed the forum as Hindu Jagaran Vedike, Kadri branch he was not pleased with the outcome,” sources close to Padeel told Express. The hostility intensified when both begun eying a contract of providing security for an upcoming mall.

It appears that vigilantes who led the attacks on the revelers are presently running security agencies. Prasad Attavar, the prime accused in Amnesia Pub attack owns the Moonshine security agency. Bajrang Dal convener Sharan Pumpwell was the prime accused in the case where they beat more than 30 students partying at Maharani farm house in Ullal.

Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh said, “The process of issuing licences to Private security Agencies (PSA) in Mangalore by Bangalore based Internal Security Division (ISD) is a centralised system. We will see how we can prevent such elements from owning security agencies.”
