Manjot Singh Kohli, a social and human rights activist who recently made headlines for her decision to donate one of her kidneys to her 22-year-old Muslim friend Samreen Akhtar has been denied permission by the Authorisation Committee for organ transplants in Kashmir. Reportedly, her plea was rejected on humanitarian grounds. The activist's father had earlier served a notice to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, opposing her daughters decision, saying "there is no family consent".
