New Delhi: If the Kerala government were to go ahead with its decision on registration of weddings, the dictum marriages are made in heaven, will get a worthy extension—and registered in God's own country.
Kerala government is to soon issue a ruling to make the registration of marriages with local bodies compulsory for all, irrespective of religion or caste.
Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan informed the state Assembly that the court's ruling comes in wake of the Supreme Court's order, which notified that the state should seek public opinion and suggestions on the issue.
After examining the suggestions, the rules would be presented to the Cabinet for consideration, PTI reported. The draft was notified the Kerala Registration of Marriages (common) Rules.
On February 26, the Bihar government had made it mandatory for newly-married couples to register their marriage within 30 days of the wedding or pay a penalty.
