BANGALORE: The wait for the launch of Namma Metro might end soon, as Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda announced that the delayed project would finally be opened (Reach I) for public use on October 20.Speaking to media persons after inspecting the MG Road station on Friday, Gowda said that they were expecting more than 50,000 people to be part of this maiden journey of the Metro.“We are expecting many people to be part of the inauguration and seating facilities have been arranged for 20,000 people,” he said.He shared that on the day of the inauguration, all Ministers and other dignitaries would be taken for a Metro ride from MG Road till Byappanahalli, where they would be shown the quality of works done, and after their return from there, the formal inauguration would take place.“We will also inaugurate the six Metro stations on the same day,” he said.“We will ensure adequate number of police personnel are deployed and will also ascertain the number of people present in every Metro station on the day of the inauguration,” City Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji said.Responding to questions on the already delayed project and its reasons, Gowda said that the State Government engaged in lobbying with the centre to give the safety clearance, and if not for their persistence, the project would have been further delayed.BANNERS RESTRICTEDBruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has restricted displaying flex banners or hoardings at public places during Metro Rail launch.A release from BBMP stated that as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Ministers from State and Central cabinet will be attending the Metro launch on October 20, Palike has banned displaying flex banners, buntings and cut outs.
