KRISHNAGIRI: Three persons, including a pregnant woman, died and 37 persons were injured when the mini lorry in which they were travelling overturned near Krishnagiri today.A group of 40 persons were travelling in an open mini lorry to Vellisandhai village to attend a wedding. The lorry driver lost control and slipped down an 8-foot slope along the road side when a two-wheeler crossed the road near Kaveripattinam suddenly. The motorcycle rider fled the spot immediately after the mishap. Villagers who witnessed the accident said the lorry overturned three times while falling down the slope. Municipal Administration Minister K P Munusamy, who was travelling in the district, rushed to the spot along with Collector C N Maheswaran and RDO R Sathish.Murugammal (27), wife of Chinnasamy, died on the spot while 37 other persons sustained injuries. Another woman Chinnakanni (69), died on the way to Krishnagiri government hospital.Sathya (27), wife of Senthil, who was due to deliver her child in a few days, died in hospital without responding to treatment. All three women belonged to Errahalli village. Nine seriously injured persons including four woman have been shifted to a private hospital in Bangalore while thirty other persons were being treated in Krishnagiri GH.
