Sheopur: An Indian Forest Service officer ‘fed up’ of unhindered illegal mining in his areas has filed a voluntary retirement application before the department in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district.
Sheopur Sub Divisional Officer (Forest) SK Jauhri said that his repeated pleas to his superiors for action have gone unanswered.
Jauhri moved an application with the department headquarters in Bhopal seeking voluntary retirement on February 25. The officer in his application has maintained that contractors engaged with CPWD road construction works in the district are digging out stones without any permission in the forest areas.
He also alleged that complaints registered with the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) CS Ninama fell on the deaf ears.
Jauhri has claimed that the situation is not only leading to loss of lakhs of rupees to the state exchequer as revenue but also triggering a sense of indiscipline among the forest staff.
Ninama has trashed the allegation and said that he (Jauhri) hasn’t cleared a mandatory departmental exam and is being removed. This is the reason he has leveled baseless allegations and sought VRS, the officer said.
Jauhri on the other hand said that he wrote on several occasions to the DFO over anomalies and usage of illegally mined stones in CPWD road construction but nothing happened.
Of late, forest, revenue departments and police have been carrying out joint action against mining mafia in Madhya Pradesh. However, the opposition, especially Congress has dubbed this exercise as mere eyewash.
