BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the performance and attitude of the banks in terms of providing assistance to the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector. Majority of the banks in the State are not responsive to the finance needs of the MSMEs. The Government has woken up to this apathy and will take action if there is no change in the approach of the banks, senior officials on Tuesday said at MSME Summit 2011 - Creating linkages between MSMEs and large industries here. Inaugurating the summit, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in association with Team Orissa, NSIC and Directorate of Industries, Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik said that the State MSME Policy 2009 was under review to adapt it to present day environment. Addressing the marketing and finance needs of the sector needs top priority, he observed. Patnaik stressed promotion of cluster approach and formation of consortiums among the small industries to take advantage of the emerging opportunities. Manufacturing, service and construction were some of the areas of immense potential, he said. Industry Secretary T Ramachandru called upon entrepreneurs to strengthen themselves in view of the large-scale industrialisation in the State. If the large industries setting up units in the State do not find reliable suppliers, they may have to fall back on their existing suppliers in other States. The consequences would be disastrous, he said and added that the Government was aware of their problems of financing and taking steps to facilitate proper credit inflow to them. Steel and Mines Secretary Manoj Ahuja, RBI Regional Director BK Bhoi, ICC Director- General Rajeev Singh and Industries Director KN Khatai were present among others.
