New Delhi: Maoists have attacked a police camp in southern Chhattisgarh and killed at least 10 police personnel on Sunday.
The attack occurred at Murkinar village near Dantewada. Naxals attacked the camp killing an assistant platoon commander, six special police officers, two head constables and one constable.
The naxals looted most of the weapons including one LMG, three AK-47, fifteen .303 rifles, one mortar and one mortar launcher from the post, the sources said.
"We have information that ten policemen have been killed in a Naxal attack on Murkinar police outpost," police said.
"There are heavy casualties on both sides," director general of police Om Prakash Rathor said, adding police parties had been dispatched to the site.
Although 22 policemen and 31 Special Police Force personnel were present on the outpost, located under Awapalli police station area, about 550 km from the state capital, they were caught unaware by the suddenness of the attack, the sources said.
