Neighbour arrested for theft of gold and cash

ALUVA:: In a dramatic  turn in the investigation into the theft of gold ornaments and cash from the flat of Manoj in Aluva last Saturday, police nabbed Laila, 28, wife of Firoz Khan, residing in the adjacent flat, on  Tuesday.Manoj and family were away when the theft took place.  Laila alerted the local people and the police about the theft, saying she saw two persons run out of the apartment.The police summoned Manoj and found that 11 sovereigns of gold and Rs 51,000 were missing.Laila’s statements and behaviour during the investigation at the crime scene raised suspicion, the police said. CI S Jayakrishnan and SI Nishanth Ibrahim grilled Laila, who later confessed to the crime.The stolen gold and cash were recovered. Laila’s husband works abroad.
