The Degree College Teachers’ Association has appealed to Lucknow University vice-chancellor SB Nimse to allow college teachers to guide PhD students. The association maintained that it was highly discriminatory that when colleges affiliated to other state universities had the right to guide PhD students, teachers here were not allowed to do so.

Lucknow: MR Jaipuria School celebrates Varsha Mangal Ustav

Lucknow: Geologist awarded PhD from Lucknow University

Pranay Vikram Singh has been awarded doctor of philosophy (PhD) from the geology department of Lucknow University (LU). Singh is currently posted as a geologist in National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd in Haryana. He completed his thesis titled “Geology and Structure of the Kimin-Ziro Transect, Arunachal Himalaya, with special reference to the thrust related deformation” under Prof KK Agarwal, head of department Geology, Lucknow University.

Lucknow: Cambridge varsity students participate in Rickshaw Sports Project

Six students from Cambridge University have arrived in the city to work with the under-privileged as a part of the Rickshaw Sports Project launched by the British varsity this year. The students will stay here till August 15 and will be teaching new skills and learning about traditional Indian sports from the children who are covered under Project Khel. The tour will culminate in Global Peace Games for Children and Youth to be held on August 14.

Lucknow: Death, birth certificates to be digitalised

The municipal commissioner has directed the LMC officials to issue a receipt of the money charged in lieu of certificates. The certificates will not be issued if receipts are not given to residents. The civic body started the digital service under the state portal and eForms project. Under this, 26 services of eight departments are made available to the citizens through common service centres which are operational even at tehsil level.

Aligarh: Athletics Championship to begin from August 30

The North Zone Junior Athletics Championship will now begin from August 30. The competition was scheduled to start from August 21. However, due to heavy rainfall, the stadium has been flooded. The competition has been postponed to August 30. About 800 athletes from Jammu ~~amp; Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Hariyana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh will be participating in the competition.

Aligarh: UGC, SC directs AMU to create anti-ragging cell

The UGC and Supreme Court have directed the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to create an anti-ragging cell. Senior students are also to be included in the committee. The campus will be opening on August 12. Acting proctor Dr. Tuffail Ahmed has said that if anyone is found guilty of ragging, strict action will be taken against them.
