New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's Art of Living foundation to pay the remaining Rs 4.75 crore penalty within a week for organising the World Culture Festival in March.
The penalty was imposed as environment compensation for damages incurred to Yamuna flood plains in Delhi because of the World Culture Festival held in March.
The NGT also rejected AOL's plea to pay compensation for violation of environmental norms through a bank guarantee. The tribunal told AOL that the permission to hold the event was only given on the condition that the foundation would pay the compensation on time.
The foundation claimed that it did no wrong and would approach Supreme Court if required.
NGT had levied Rs 5 crore environment compensation on the foundation out of which it had deposited Rs 25 lakh before the three-day event kicked off on March 11.
