TIRUPATI: ‘Dwajarohanam’ which was performed at Sri Govindaraja Swamy Vari temple, here on Sunday, marked the commencement of the nine-day annual Brahmaotsavam of Sri Govindaraja Swamy.Amid chantings of sacred mantras by priests, Garuda Dhwajam (yellow cloth with imprint of Garuda on it) was hoisted on the Dwaja Stambam.The fluttering of the flag in the gentle breeze of the morning, welcomed celestial beings from remote places of the universe to the grand event and heralded the commencement of the 9-day ritual.The sacred ritual was performed at 9:10 am in the auspicious Karkataka lagnam.Scores of devotees from every walk of life with folded hands, piety in their hearts and chanting Govinda namam offered prayers to the deity on the occasion.Tirumala pontiff Sri Pedda Jeeyar Swamy, his deputy Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, TTD executive officer LV Subramanyam, spl gr dy EO Suryakumari, VGO Manohan, DyEO (local temples) Chinna Swamy, AEO Sri Subramanyam and others were present.Later in the evening, processional idols of Lord Govindraja swamy along with his consorts were taken out in a procession along four Mada streets on ‘Pedda Sesha Vahanam’.Several devotees along the route offered prayers to Lord Govindaraja swamy.TTD officials with help of traffic police regularised and directed traffic along the route during the procession.
