CHENNAI: DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Thursday described Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s appearance before a Special Court in Bangalore in connection with an assets case as bowing to justice. He, however, said he had not sought her resignation. “Resign is a term frequently used by Jayalalithaa in every other statement released by her. I do not want to use that word,” Karunanidhi quipped.Asked to comment on Jayalalithaa seeking adjournment of the hearing in the wealth case, he alleged that the AIADMK chief had always tried to avoid appearing in court. “Even now, she has appeared in court only after a SC order,” he said.Reacting to Jayalalithaa’s demand that the DMK should pullout of the UPA government at the Centre in view of the Koodankulam stalemate, he said, “Those who do not like the DMK being part of the ruling government would always seek the resignation of the party from the UPA coalition.”Sending out a message to the people protesting against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant project, he said it was the duty of the State and Central governments to ensure the welfare of the people. He reiterated that the lives of the people living there should be protected. When asked for his take on the by-election drubbing for his party in Tiruchy West, he said his party candidate K N Nehru lost as he could not campaign since he was lodged in prison.
