VIJAYAWADA: As of now, we do not have any thought of privatising the APSRTC though it is incurring losses as the transport organisation is serving people, RTC managing director B Prasada Rao has said.Speaking after inaugurating a CNG compressor at the Governorpet RTC bus depot on Monday, he said: “We have spent Rs 800 crore to buy 4,000 buses this year. We are running 24,000 buses across the state. The RTC buses carry 1.4 crore passengers a day. We have sought the support of Self Help Groups for further expansion of RTC services and make it as the most reliable mode of transport both in rural and urban areas.”The APSRTC has decided to operate AC buses between Tirupati and Tirumala for the benefit of pilgrims. The RTC is yet to take a decision on the fare of buses to be operated under the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS)in Vijayawada, the RTC vice-chairman and MD said. Earlier, Rao laid the foundation stone for a driving test track for the newly recruited RTC bus drivers at Gannavaram.RTC executive director NK Agarwal, Bhagyanagar Gas Ltd vice-president SV Prasad, RTC regional manager KVRK Prasad and other officials were also present on the occasion.
