CHENNAI: A three day fair, 'National numismatic and philatelic exhibition 2011,' opened here on Friday. The exhibition is organised by the Chennai Numismatic Society. Over 200 collectors and traders have set up 85 stalls of rare coins and stamps from various countries besides old bank notes.Inaugurating the fair, Bharath Chandran, president of the society, said it was an opportunity, especially for the younger generation to see different kinds of coins used before independence, including the ones issued by various principalities.The display includes coins of various sultanates, the Mughal Empire and coins issued by the Presidencies of Madras, Bombay and Bengal. Also, coins and bank notes issued after Independence apart from a rare Rs. 5000 denomination note are on display.The fair is being held at Arignar Anna Arangam on Dr Gurusamy Road, off Poonamalle High Road, Chetpet. The expo is open from 10 am till 5 pm until Sunday.
