Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Thursday declared an end to the three-month tussle between the nurses and the hospital management of the Kothamangalam Mar Baselios Hospital following an agreement on six demands by the nurses, including implementation of minimum wages for the staff.
With the agitation ending, the three nurses who had threatened to jump from the top of the hospital agreed to end their fast.
As per the agreement, the nurses will be given all benefits agreed upon during the union representatives’ meeting with the Joint Labour Commissioner on March 5.
The hospital management has agreed to increase the number of shifts to three and provide annual increment to senior nurses.
The nurses’ union and hospital management will hold detailed talks in the presence of the Health Minister and the Labour Commissioner on Sunday.
