Nushrat: Changed my eating habits for 'Akaash Vani'
Nushrat Bharucha talks about her no make-up days during the workshop for her next film 'Akaash Vani'.

New Delhi: Nushrat Bharucha was noticed in 'Love Sex Aur Dhokha' but it was 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama' which earned her the spotlight. Director Luv Ranjan has featured Nushrat in his second film 'Akaash Vani' as well. In a candid conversation, Nushrat describes the kind of preparation she went through before shooting for 'Akaash Vani'.

Q: Are you going to reprise your 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama' role in 'Akaash Vani'?

A: (Laughs) If I do that in 'Akaash Vani' then what will I do in 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2'? See, there is always this pressure of surpassing your own previous work, especially when it is so widely accepted. When 'Dil Chahta Hai' came it became a cult film but Aamir did other roles as well, it all depends on how well you tackle your next film.

Q: What was the thought behind your character in the film?

A: I am playing a Dehradun girl in the film who is a very family-oriented person. I don't have a large group of friends and I have come to Delhi to live life, I want to experience college life, life in the city and everything else. I didn't expect to meet a person like Akaash but when I meet him he becomes my entire world. Vani gets so many colours and shades in him that she is totally occupied with him. Her every moment comes down to the question 'where is Akaash'?

Q: Is the story covering two different phases of Akaash and Vani's life? The promos suggest something similar.

A: The dialogue you see in the promos is during a banter that Akaash starts. He feels that he is a cool dude from Chandigarh who can say anything to any girl, and I come across as a simple, sweet girl to him, so he tries a smart line on me, and I very quietly give it back to him which he never expected. Gradually such banter grows into the fun elements of our lives. And, that pony tailed look is during a ragging session of the college where we are asked to dress badly.

Q: It would be difficult for you to come out of the shadow of 'Pyaar ka Punchnama'.

A: I think people will come with a preset notion. We wrote 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama' after 'Akaash Vani', so Vani was anyway different than Neha. Luv Ranjan was very clear that he needs to put me through rigorous workshops because I did Neha before. Neha was very manipulative, so it took a while before I got to Vani's innocence and purity. What helped in the process was writing, if you know dialogue and other mannerism of your character beforehand then all you need to do is to find out the reason why she is doing so.

Q: But you may copy the mannerism of Neha (PKP) unknowingly.

A: More than the character, it seeped into me as a person. It's very weird but I became very possessive of Kartik in real sense, we had to do that as there was no other way to achieve perfection. Similarly, when 'Akaash Vani' was about to start we took a workshop of 6 months where I was asked to wear only salwaar-kameez, no make-up, no kajal, nothing. I changed my eating habits and when you do these things consciously these little things change you as a person as well.

Q: What's your next avatar apart from 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2'?

A: (Laughs) I am a very loyal person. If the makers have asked me to wait till the film releases I am going to wait. They needed me to be committed and due to the fact that dates could have become a problem in case of me signing other films I decided to do just one film at a time.
