ONGC well gas leakage under control
A 14-member Crisis Management Team team led by its chief, Ved Prakash Marwah, sealed the leakage of gas.

Agartala: Leakage of gas from a well of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at Konaban in West Tripura district was today controlled by the company’s Crisis Management Team (CMT), official sources said.

"A 14-member CMT team led by its chief, Ved Prakash Madwar today sealed the leakage of gas by setting up a 'Blow out preventus (BOP)' on the leaking well and then by throwing chemical muds," sources said.

Gas had started leaking from the well on June 14.

Experts from a US firm Boots & Coots that extinguished fire from a large number of oil wells of Kuwait after the Gulf War, were also flown here to plug the leakage of the gas well, but the CMT could finish the work just before their arrival on the site, sources said.

ONGC officials said, the particular gas well was explored way back in 1988 and was quite okay till June 14 evening when suddenly gas started gushing out.

ONGC explored 22 wells at Konaban and its adjacent areas of which 19 wells were operational.
